A retired custodian and a resident and native of Baton Rouge, he died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at The Guest House at age 86. Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 5, from 8:30 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by Bishop Eugene Harris. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Survived by his wife, Leona R. Smith; daughters, Wynell, Debora and spouse Charles Baise, Brenda and spouse Eroll Mencer, Rosalee, Shirleen, Carolyn, Latania, Linda, and Melissa and spouse Robert Menson; sons, Darryl Carney Sr., Edward and Willie Frank Smith and Calvin Ricks; 50 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his father, Willie E. Smith Sr., mother, Rosa H. Smith; sons, Charles Smith Sr. and David Smith Sr.; daughters, Cynthia Rose and Wenona Smith
