Wilford "Doug" Griffin was born January 8, 1946 in Mansfield, LA to Bud and Mary Griffin. He graduated from Bethune High in 1964. Wilford then attended Grambling State University and was a member of the GSU Tiger marching band. On June 20, 1966 he was drafted into the US Army. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, and later the Army band. Wilford left the Army in 1968, at which time he transferred to Southern University Baton Rouge. There he joined the S.U. Human Jukebox marching band. This is where he met the love of his life, the former Stella Richardson. They wed on May 25, 1971 in New Iberia, LA. They had two children, Wilford Jr., and Danyell. Wilford loved music and was a talented player of four instruments. He was a collector of jazz and blues, and often spent his weekends listening to both. He was a member of New Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Shreveport. Wilford was known to be a kind soul who loved to have a good time. Wilford passed away on December 21, 2020 after a long battle with dementia. He was preceded in death by his wife Stella; his parents, Bud and Mary; and his sister, Dorothy Dotson (Ernest). He leaves to mourn his passing, his children; James, Sheila, Wilford Jr., and Danyell; his sister Betty Davis (MT), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
