Funeral services for Mr. Vernon Ray Davenport, Sr., age 72, of Winnfield, La., will be held Saturday, Nov.22, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. in the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Tommy Hamms officiating. Interment will follow in the Cedar Grove B.C. Cemetery near Winnfield, La. Visitation is Friday from 6-8 P.M. in the funeral home. Mr. Davenport, a retired educator, passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, in the home of his mother. He is known for his weekly column featured in the Winn Parish Enterprise entitled 'IT HAPPENED LIKE THIS'. Survivors include: two(2) sons, Deon Davenport of St. Louis, Mo; Vernon Davenport, Jr. of Chandler, Az. three(3) daughters, Devette Davenport of Nashville, Tn; Jacqueline Hollingsworth of Houston, Tx; DeShaye Davis of Winnfield, La. Other survivors include: his mother, Ola M. Davenport of Winnfield, La; one(1) brother, Preston Davenport of Winnfield, La; one(1) sister, Blondine Abraham of Chicago, Ill., eighteen(18) grandchildren, seven(7) great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
