A retired professor with Southern University and a lawyer, he died Monday, January 21, 2008 at 7:10 a.m. at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 75, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Leesville. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Visitation Services at Winnfield Funeral Home of Baton Rouge on Friday, Jan. 25, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Religious service at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Leesville on Saturday at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Turner. Interment in Leesville Memorial Cemetery. Survived by his mother, Rosalie Bursh, Leesville; four sons, Darryl Bursh, Baton Rouge, Talmage Bursh, Jr., New Jersey, Troy Bursh, Sr. and wife Lynette, Covington, Derrick Bursh, Sr. and wife Meccy, Baton Rouge; two sisters, Theory Warren, St. Louis, and Bertha Simon, Las Vegas; two brothers, Billy Bursh, Tempe, AZ and Joshua Bursh II, Leesville; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Preceded in death by father, Joshua Bursh, two brothers, Samuel J. Bursh Sr. and Leandrea Bursh; sister, Casandra Bursh; and former wife, Glenden Bursh.
