We mourn the loss and Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mrs. Sylvia Farruya 78, of Shreveport, La.
Sylvia Marie Farruya "Nini", a long-time resident of Bossier City, passed away Tuesday November 28 at Willis-Knighton Hospital.
Born May 7, 1939, in Greenville, South Carolina, Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents Mr. Johnnie and Geneva Hall, and her husband Armando Farruya, Jr.
Sylvia was a retired Behavioral Counselor at Elm Grove Middle School in Bossier City, Louisiana. Church member and Stewardess at St. Matthew A.M.E., beloved wife, awesome mother, devoted aunt, cousin and dear friend. Sylvia, a Cadillac woman, truly loved to cut a rug with her husband, Armando. She loved traveling, gardening, classic films, curly-haired poodles and the latest Vogue magazine. Nini, as she was affectionately known to many, had a true appreciation for the finer things in life. Above all, Sylvia was a great listener, a confidant with an enormous heart and an infectious laugh.
Sylvia is survived by her brother Sammie Hall and sisters, Paula Gomez and Rhonda Young; her four sons Derric M. Farruya, Miguel R. Farruya, Armando "Chino" Farruya III and Anthony Farruya, thirteen grandchildren including four grandsons and nine granddaughters, as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The Winnfield Funeral Homes, Shreveport, have been entrusted with arrangements for her memorial service Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Matthew A.M.E. church at 1610 Murphy Street, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71103.
