Obituary

Services for Sis Shirley Blake Visitation will be Friday, June 4, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. " 9:00 p.m., Winnfield Funeral Home and Homegoing services will be Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Baptist Church, Cane River with Rev. A. Brinson, Pastor, officiating. Sis. Shirley Blake entered the arms of Jesus on May 30, 2010 after a brief illness in Houston, Texas with her children at her side. She was born on September 15, 1938 to James J. Blake and Welthey Cooper-Blake. She accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul Baptist Church. She later united with St. Mary Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She will be remembered as the backbone in her family. She loved God which was displayed greatly in her service to family, loved ones and her church. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Steve Shields, two brothers James Blake, Sr. and Willie Blake, three sisters, Johnnie B. Young, Mary Blake and Ann Blake. She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Florence Shields-Watkins (Tyrone) and Mavis Blake-Handsborough (Adrian) of Houston, Texas, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, Charles Blake and Frank Blake of Los Angeles, California, two sisters, Alice Blake of Natchitoches, Louisiana and Margaret Bolden of Los Angeles, California, four sister-in-laws, and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
