"2 Timothy 4:7 Sherria Cantreace Turner passed away on October 12, 2011, at her home in Baton Rouge, LA, after a courageous fight with metastatic breast cancer. She was surrounded by family and loved ones. A native of Winnfield, LA, Sherria was born on October 6, 1979, to the union of the late Mr. Ralph Turner Jr. and Mrs. Myrtle E. Turner. Sherria was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Turner Jr. Sherria is survived by her mother, Myrtle E. Turner, Winnfield, LA and her sister, LaToya Turner, Plano, TX. She also leaves to cherish her memory numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Sherria was a 1997 graduate of Winnfield Senior High School. She attended college at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA, where she received a Bachelors of Arts in Special Education in 2003. She continued her graduate educational studies and went on to receive a Masters of Education- Special Education in 2004 and a Masters Plus 30 in 2006. Sherria began her career with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System in 2001 at Forest Heights Elementary School and later went on to teach special education at LaBelle Aire Elementary School in 2003. She was an educator that believed it was important to teach her students not only about academics but lifes true lessons. Her students meant the world to her, as she gave effortlessly of her time and talents to the students and their families. She believed that true education lifted the entire community, one day at a time. Sherria was a member of the Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she actively served on numerous committees within the chapter including Educational Development, Political Awareness and Involvement, and the Hospitality Committee. She also served proudly as a member of the Board of Directors for the Baton Rouge Delta Development Corporation (BRDDC) Board from 2006- 2008 and held the office of Recording Secretary for BRDDC. Sherrias commitment to her beloved Sorority will forever be cherished by the chapter she diligently served and her Network 61 Line Sisters. Sherria had a passion for life and was courageous beyond any measure. Sherria was a member at Greater Neals Temple Church of God In Christ where she dedicated her life to God and was baptized. Upon moving to Baton Rouge, LA, she continued her journey with Christ at The Bethany World Prayer Center. Quiet hour will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Winnfield Funeral Home. A celebration of Sherrias life will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 1:00pm, at Greater Neals Temple Church of God in Christ with the Bishop Harold Wright Jr. officiating. Graveside services will be held at the Winnfield Cemetery. Repass will be held at the Annex building (Old Pinecrest Cafeteria) following the graveside services.
