Obituary

We mourn the loss and Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mrs. Sarah Mae Ellis 80, of Shreveport La. After being given the days of 80 years from Friday, June 18, 1937 this energetic and beautiful lady departed this realm on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 8:58 AM. She was in the comforts of home and surrounded by loved ones. It was a spirit-filled celebration that reminded us of the Goodness of God in that He chose to gift us with her radiance; a life not soon forgotten. Mrs. Ellis was the second child born to Moses and Josie Mae Roscoe Coleman after her older sister, Hazel Mae Coleman Dudley and lived in Heflin, Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age at the Galilee Baptist Church under the pasturage of Reverend L. D. Scott. Sarah attended Central Consolidated High School also located in Dubberly to complete grades 1-12. During her high school years she was a center for the Central High School Dragons girl's basketball team and played against her older sister who was a center for the Webster High School Wolves in Minden, Louisiana in 1953. No one enjoyed the game more than their parents. What a night! After graduation, Sarah attended Grambling State University, in Grambling, Louisiana where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Later she matriculated at Louisiana Tech earning a Master's Degree in Counselling. This educator started her professional career in Webster Parish ending in Caddo Perish at Huntington High School where Mr. Thomas Archey was Principal. Mrs. Ellis was a member of the New Life Missionary Baptist where Reverend Martin Taylor is Pastor, Teacher. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Women's Missionary Department Teacher and a member of the Deaconess Board. Mrs. Ellis was a proud member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Iota Chapter. Sarah was preceded in death by her Father Moses Coleman, her mother, Josie Mae Roscoe Coleman and her husband Jones Lavelle Ellis. This blessed lady of God leaves to cherish her memory not only her sister Hazel Mae Coleman Dudley, but a son, Ferrell Kinsey Ellis, three (3) grandchildren, Ferrell Kinsey Ellis II, Lavelle Jay Ellis and Claudia LaShelle Ellis; two (2) great grandchildren, Lavelle Jay Ellis Jr and Zaeyah Ah'ree Ellis. In addition; many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, co-workers and students who will miss her dearly.
