Sam Williamson passed away at his home in Greenwood, La on Friday October 13, 2017at the age of 76. He was born on January 9, 1941 in Ellenton, South Carolina to the late Hampton Williamson Jr. and Charlotte M. Williamson.
Sam was baptized and nurtured in the Runs Missionary Baptist Church. Locally he attended New Hope C.M.E. Church. He received his early education in the public school system of Aiken, South Carolina. He graduated from Martha Scofield High School in 1960.
Sam went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1960 - 1968, completing two tours. After his time of service, Sam utilized the G.I Bill for veterans to attend Southern University and LSU Shreveport, earning a Bachelor of Science degree - Business Management/Social Science in 1978. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Alma. They were married in Bossier City, LA on March 28, 1964 and resided in the Shreveport/Bossier area.
Sam had a 15 year career with the Bingham-Williamette Company prior to working as an Auto Claim representative at State farm Insurance. Sam retired after 16 years with State Farm in May 2001. During his retirement years, Sam was an avid gardener and cook. He also enjoyed traveling with his grandchildren and cheering on the Grambling Tigers as a season ticket holder.
Sam was active in the Greenwood Community Chamber of Commerce. He was a long time member of the Caddo Parish 911 Board, being recommended by Parish commissioner Ken Epperson. He was also a past member of the North Louisiana Kiwanis club for several years. Sam loved people and working in the community.
Sam is preceded by his brother Eugene Williamson. He is lovingly remembered by sister Lucille Bush; sister Eloise Holloway (Albert); son Byron Williamson (Kanika); daughter Erica Williamson - White granddaughters Olivia M. White and Ella E.
