IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raybon
White
September 24, 1960 – June 18, 2023
RAYBON DURON WHITE was born to Unice Lee "U.L." White and Helen Marie
Campbell White on September 24, 1960, in El Paso, Texas. Raybon departed this life
on June 18, 2023.
Raybon was truly one-of-a-kind - a brilliant and gentle man who always prioritized
his faith and family above all else. A product of the South during integration, Raybon
was one of the first Black students to attend Plain Dealing Elementary before
graduating from Southern Laboratory School. Raybon went on to Southern
University-Baton Rouge where his father served as Dean of the College of Business.
After receiving his undergraduate degree in just three years, he advanced to the
University of Wisconsin-Madison to obtain his Master of Business Administration
degree in one year. Across his scholastic experiences, he consistently displayed his
intellect, curiosity, and dedication as a top student.
Following his educational pursuits, Raybon joined General Motors and worked his
way up from financial analyst to plant controller over a 36-year career. Not only did
he manage multi-million dollar budgets and oversee site operations and performance,
but he also selflessly mentored and inspired dozens of finance professionals and
minorities working in the automotive industry during that period. Raybon consistently
thought about how he could impact people. His biggest desire was for people to
experience all that God had planned for them.
Beyond his academic and professional successes, Raybon was a financial guru,
recreational golfer, and avid traveler. Most importantly, Raybon was a loving husband
and father. Given his upbringing, he held onto the importance of racial reconciliation
and enjoyed engaging in courageous conversations to bring change. Raybon was also
a bonafide evangelist. In fact, he found ways to spread the Good News in nearly every
situation he encountered. Raybon's faith became even stronger when he married his
sweetheart, Jennie V. Douglas, on May 14, 1983. The two were inseparable and their
union brought forth three sons: Sean Alexander, Sherrick Avery, and Cortlan Ray.
He leaves to celebrate his homegoing: his wife, Jennie; three sons, Sean, Sherrick, and
Cortlan; two daughters-in-law, Jasmine (Sean) and April (Sherrick); three
grandchildren, Aila, Avery, and Cade; and a host of other relatives and friends.
