Funeral services for Phil Davis, Sr. age 75 of Natchitoches will be held Saturday October 31, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Winnfield Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Lawrence Serenity Sanctum. Visitation will be held Friday October 30, 2009 from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. The season of autumn brought forth a musical man of his times in the personage of Mr. Phil Davis, Sr. who passed October 24, 2009 in the Long Term Care Unit of the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center where he received compassionate care for more than nine years. He was born September 12, 1934 in Natchitoches, LA to the parentage of the late Mr. Willie Davis Sr. and Mrs. Daisy Johnson Davis. His formal education was achieved in the public schools of Natchitoches Parish where he graduated as a member of Central High School Class of 1954. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, two sisters and one son. Mr. Davis served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He then enrolled at the Central Area Trade School in Natchitoches where he pursued vocational training in cabinet making. His outstanding skills as a craftsman in this construction avenue brought him acclaim and contracts to build and install cabinets for many prominent citizens and businesses in the Natchitoches community. This progressive gentleman was naturally gifted in the area of music and refined his talent in participation with the music program at Central High School under the direction of the late Mr. Alcee Vaughn who held the Master's Degree in Music from Columbia University. He evolved into a professional musician on his famous drum set starting a musical career with the Serenaders Band directed and organized by his high school music instructor, Mr. Vaughn. He went on to become a very well known and sought after Disc Jockey who became a regualr at the KNOC Radio Station every weekend. Mr. Davis even had to his credit a minor hit in this region entitled, 'Black Cobra'. Mr. Davis was formerly a member of the First Baptist Church, North Street where he participated in the Music Ministry. He was initially married to Mrs. Annie Bell Davis and in later years was married to Mrs. Joyce Mae Davis. He is survived by his children, Mr. Phil Davis, Jr., Mr. James Allen Davis, Ms. Kathalyn Jeanette Davis, Mr. John Anthony O'Neal Davis, Mr. Donald Johnson, Mr. Dennis Lee Davis, Mr. Keith Davis, Ms. Sherelle Monique Davis, Mr. Dwayne Thomas Davis, Mr. Gregory Mandel Davis and Mr. Christopher Bernard Johnson, a number of grandchildren, a brother, Mr. Charles Davis and two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Fuller and Mrs. Jeanette Davis-Newton, nieces, hephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
