Ruthie Mae Sterling Ross was born on April 13, 1942 in Shreveport, LA to Ora Bell Johnson and Henry Sterling. She heard her Savior calling her to eternal rest on September 29, 2021.
"Rudy Mae" was baptized at an early age at Trinity Baptist Church. Joining her husband, she became a member of Baptist Temple Church. Together, they later joined Zion Missionary Baptist Church and she became a faithful member while singing in the choir until her death.
She was a 1961 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and attended Grambling State University. She worked as a Substitute Teacher but later retired from Libbey Glass Factory after working for 31 years, never missing a day.
She was United in marriage to her love Jimmy Ross for over 55 years. To this union two children were born. Andre and Maranda.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, brothers Grady Johnson and Andrew Johnson; a sister Henrietta Smith.
She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memories, husband Jimmy Ross, children Andre Ross (Katonya) of San Diego, California; Maranda Ross-Bursey (Rosco) of Homer, LA; sisters, Laverne Brown of Phoenix, Arizona and Willie B. White of Shreveport, LA Grandchildren and bonus grandchildren, Corrie Ross (Anesha); DRivus Boyd, Jamal Moore (Shantia), Jasmine Moore, Semaj Ross, Brittney Donald; great grandson Tahj "TJ" Ross; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren and other loving family and friends.
We are grateful for her warm God fearing spirit, love, kisses and hugs. We will miss her deeply.
A viewing will be at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the John H. Wilson Center on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 2-5. Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11:00 at Round Grove Cemetery.
