Funeral Services will be August 7, 2010 11:00 at Macedonia Baptist Church, Zwolle La.Viewing will be held from 9:00am to Service time. Obituary Mildred Lee Love, daughter of the late Willie and Irene Love, was born on October 25, 1941 in Zwolle, Louisiana. She departed this life on July 27, 2010. At an early age, Mildred accepted Christ in her life and united with Macedonia Baptist Church in Zwolle, Louisiana, where she served faithfully. She taught Sunday School classes, sang in the choir and directed the Vacation Bible School. Mildred graduated from J.S. Clark High School of Zwolle Louisiana in 1959 with top honors in her class. She was an all-around student; class president and captain of the girls basketball team. Upon graduation from high school, Mildred attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she received her B.S. degree in Sociology with top honors. While at Southern, she was both a member of the Student Senate and an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. After leaving Southern University, Mildred moved to New York, where she served in the Domestic Peace Core for one year. She then went on to receive her Masters degree in Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh. Once leaving the University of Pittsburgh, Mildred moved back to Harlem where she united with the Canaan Baptist Church. She was a community activist who was involved in a range on initiatives all geared toward the betterment of neighborhoods in Harlem. Mildred was employed at the National Urban League in New York City for more than thirty (30) years. During her tenure, she held many important positions, including Sr. Vice President of Operations that touched on every facet of the Leagues operations -- Education, Field Operations and National Policy. She was a planner, a visionary and a trailblazer. Importantly, Mildred worked hard to develop innovative programs at every level which now serve as roadmaps for the future. She leaves to cherish her memory: a sister and a brother: Rose Love Boone of Bay Shore, NY, Willie E. Love and wife Shirley of Houston, Texas; five devoted nieces and nephews: Sandra Love White and husband Wiley of Zwolle, Louisiana, Marquitta Love Phillips and husband Alvin of Houston, Texas, Kevin Love of Houston, Texas, Christopher E Boone and wife Mariama of Atlanta, Georgia and John Slate of Huntsville, Texas.
