Mary Metoyer Carroll Rachal, 83, of New Orleans, died Monday, June 14, 2010 in Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA. She was born to the late Joseph (Joe Ben) Metoyer and Nettie Sarpy Metoyer, Nov. 30, 1926 in Natchitoches, LA. She married the late Willie T. Carroll, Sr and to their union a son, Willie T. Carroll, Jr. was born. She later married the late Joseph Roy Rachal and had a son, Merl Joseph Rachal. Mary was a gifted seamstress working in New Orleans, LA for Haspels Brothers. She later went on to work for the New Orleans Country Club, where she remained until retirement after 40+ years of service. Even after retirement, her spirit and drive would not allow her to stay home and just rest. She continued to work part-time at the Country Club, as her presence was specifically requested by members who viewed her as part of their family. She also continued to work doing alterations and baking delicious pound cakes for loyal clients, until Hurricane Katrina displaced her from the home and city that she loved in 2005. Mary was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Melrose, LA. She loved to travel and spend time with her family, taking cruises, road trips to her birthplace in North Louisiana and making frequent visits to the East coast to visit her son and grandchildren. Her greatest joy came from helping others and her loving giving spirit endeared her to many. Mary leaves behind a host of family to celebrate her life. She is survived by her two sons: Willie T. Carroll (Mary), of Woodbury, NJ and Merl J. Rachal (Felecia) of Alexandria; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother: Willie (Rose Helen) Metoyer; sisters Alice Mae Metoyer, Mattie Rose Antee and Cora (Luke) Sarpy; sister-in-laws: Carrie Metoyer & Priscilla Metoyer. Also left to cherish her memory are nieces, nephews along with many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husbands: Willie T. Carroll Sr. & Joseph Roy Rachal; brothers: Julian Metoyer, Raymond Metoyer & Benjamin Metoyer; sisters: Carmel Metoyer & Roberta Metoyer Llorens. A viewing will be held at Winnfield Funeral Home of Natchitoches on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 6pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p. m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday June 19, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Melrose, La with entombment following at the church cemetery.
