On Saturday morning June 2, 2012 God rewarded Katherine A. Hobdy for her service by calling her home after a long battle with cancer. She was married to the late J.B. Hobdy and was the mother of two children. Katherine served the community in various capacities: music educator in the Winn Parish School System, musician at the Union Hill and Oak Ridge Baptist churches; musician and teacher in the New Hope Baptist Association and parish singing conventions; mission sister, deaconess, church treasurer and Sunday School teacher at the Union Hill Baptist Church; the Winn Parish Library Board; the local cancer survivors organization and the Black school reunion committee. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Rise Jones (Archie); son, William Hobdy (Deyna); sister, Ruthie Smith (George); half-sister, Annie Sanders; five grandchildren " Chaning and Jasmine Jones, Ndia and Kareese Hobdy and Cayden McCoy; one great-granddaughter, Laylah Maryee Johnson; one aunt, Lucy Hester; and a host of other relatives, friends and those whose lives she may have touched during her life. Funeral services will be at the Union Hill Baptist Church on June 9 2012 at 11am. The viewing will also be at the Union Hill Baptist Church on June 8 2012 from 6-8pm.
