Obituary

We mourn the loss and Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mrs. Linda Alexander 62, of Shreveport, La. It is with great sadness that the family of Linda Ellis Alexander announces her passing on Friday April 13, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. Linda Ellis Alexander was born Tuesday, July 12, 1955, in Bossier City, LA at Barksdale Air Force Base, to the late R/TSgt Lynn and Mattie Pearl Thomas Alexander. Linda lived most of her childhood life in the Stoner Hill subdivision of Shreveport, LA. She was baptized Catholic at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and attended Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Elementary School, Notre Dame High School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She continued her education and received an Associate Degree in Hospitality at Southern University in Shreveport, LA and received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Wiley College in Marshall, TX. She worked for Western Electric and AT&T for several years before moving to Atlanta, GA, where she worked at Bell South for 15 years. She returned to Shreveport, where she worked at Sam's Town Casino, Caddo Parish School System - working under the Youth Enrichment Program (YEP) and Substitute Teaching at various schools. Linda had a very special talent and was known for all her delicious pies, cakes and cheesecakes. Her unique sense of humor and sense of style was always immaculate. You would never find her without her glasses. We will truly hold these memories close to heart forever. She is preceded in death by her father and mother: Ret. TSgt Lynn and Mattie Pearl Thomas Alexander, Sisters: Rhonda Jean Alexander and Judith Carol Alexander Singleton, and a host of Aunts and Uncles. She leaves to cherish her memories - her sisters: Mardess Lynetta Alexander, Myrna Dee Alexander Penn, Joyce Marie Alexander-Marshall and brother: Lynn Alexander Jr.; two brother-in laws: Dave L. Marshall and L.D. Singleton. Her nieces and nephews: Ret. TSgt Towondna Bernadette Thompson (Colorado Springs, CO), Raymond Lynn Alexander (Tanya) (Dallas, TX), Contessa Michele Hearns (Charles) (McKinney, TX), CQuvator Evette Alexander-Williams (Haywood) (Rowlett, TX), Anson Alexander Penn (Dallas, TX), Sean Christopher Singleton (Hot Springs, AR), Lynn Ontario Alexander (Los Angeles, CA), Fabian T. Thomas (Dallas, TX), Antonio Thomas (Shreveport, LA), Latasha Thomas (Shreveport, LA) and Tracey Maurice Cook (New Jersey), 17 great nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and a host of lifelong friends and neighbors and her Special friend Gregory Lampkins. The Rosary and family hour will be held Friday, April 20, 2018 at 6:30 PM at Winnfield Funeral Home, 3701 Hollywood Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71109. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at The Cathedral of Saint John Berchmans, 939 Jordan St, Shreveport, LA 71101 with Rev. Msgr. J. Carson LaCaze presiding. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, 6915 West 70th Street, Shreveport, LA 71129. The Family wishes to thank all the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Willis Knighton Hospital for all of the care that they provided for our dear Linda. Also, our friends for the love, support and prayers that you have given to our family.
