A chemistry professor and resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 2:08 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2011, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. She was 57 and a native of Alexandria. Visiting at Open Door Fellowship Life Center, 4415 Avenue A, Zachary, on Friday, July 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Religious service at the center on Friday at 11 a.m., conducted by Apostle Leroy Banks. Survived by her husband, Eddie L. Stephens; daughters, Dawn Stephens-Jenkins and Heather Stephens-Robertson; sons, Major Stephens and Shea Stephens; sons-in-law, Edward Jenkins and Donald Robertson II; brother, Eric Burges; and four grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Marion Burges. Pallbearers will be Major Stephens, Shea Stephens, Lawrence Burges, Eric Burges Jr., Donald Robertson II and Edward Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers are Joseph Stephens, Darrell Gastile, Harry Stephens, Eric Burges Sr. and Allen Buckner. She was professor of chemistry, teacher at Southern University and Baton Rouge Community College, member of Open Door Fellowship Life Center and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc
