Obituary

Mr. John Rogers Roque, 96, of Natchitohes passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Friday, December 11, 2009 at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. The Wake and Rosary will be held at the Winnfield Funeral Home Chapel Thursday evening, December 17, 2009 from 5 - 8 p. m. with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p. m. Rosary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Dec. 18th at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 11:00 a. m. w/burial following in Memory Lawn Cemetery on Hwy 6. Rogers (also known affectionately as Bruise and Opposum) was born to the late Obra and Victoria Roque on October 10, 1913 in the Isle Breville community. He married to Estell Sarpy Roque on April 19, 1938. He was a faithful, devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Name Society and Knights of St. Peter Claver. No job was too big or too small for a man of his statue. He was an independent distributor of Borden's Milk for many years and later retired from Shreveport Budweiser Co., but continued to work for many years. He was a Master appliance repairman, 'jackleg' electrian, and even tried his hand at carpentry. Rogers is survived by three children--John Roque, Sr. (Shirley), Doris Roque Robinson (Johnny) and Marie Roque Hardison (Mack Arthur); fourteen grandchildren--Milton Roque, Mary Moore, Obra Roque, Charles Roque, John Roque III, Kristie Cunningham, Eric Robinson, Jennifer Scott, Carolyn Peoples, Johnny Robinson Jr. Dennis Robinson, Yolanda Walton, Terrance Hardison, and Roderick Hardison. Rogers is preceded in death by his parents, wife Estell, brother Cleveland(Lillie Mae) Roque, sister Nora Lee Roque (Anthony) and great grand daughter Melina Roque. Also left to cherish his memory are 29 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, sisters-in-law Alberta Sarpy of Natchitoches, Rita Sarpy of Inglewood, Ca., Roberta Sarpy of Sacramento, Ca and one brother-in-law Justin Christophe, Sr. of Cane River and a host of relatives and friends.
