John R. Robinson, 77, U.S. Army Veteran and Attorney Remembered for a Life of Service and Music
John R. Robinson, beloved father, grandfather, and proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away on November 25th, 2025, at the age of 77. Born November 26th, 1947, in Louisiana to John and Charity Robinson, he grew up in Louisiana, graduated from Notre Dame Catholic School, and studied Electronics Engineering at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
John’s life took a remarkable turn when he took a semester off from college to work to save for a car, only to be drafted into the U.S. Army where he served with distinction. Assigned to the Army’s marching band, he traveled the world and performed in parades, including New Orleans’ Mardi Gras Parade. His talent as an amazing saxophone player brought joy to countless lives.
After his military service, John worked at 3M for a decade before pursuing law at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He became an attorney specializing in wills and estate planning and later served as District Attorney in Minnesota, earning respect for his dedication to justice and community. He also served as a lawyer for the Avondale shipyard.
Known for his humor, charisma, and warm smile, John loved music, played tennis, and was admired for his ability to make everyone laugh. He was a lifelong learner who embraced life fully.
John is survived by his children, Carl Emery Robinson and Sonja Robinson; granddaughter Danielle Robinson; great-grandson; sister Glenda Simmons; sister-in-law Doris Robinson; and brother-in-law John Dilworth. He was a father and grandfather figure to many others. He was preceded in death by siblings Mary Dilworth and Carl I. Robinson.
John’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and service—a life that touched hearts and inspired all who knew him. His melody will play on in the lives of those he cherished.
A military honors service will take place at 12:30 p.m. on December 19th, 2025, at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, in Keithville, Louisiana.
