A native of Monroe, LA and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA., James died peacefully January 24, 2008. He was 77, a veteran of the US Army and a retired employee of Sears & Roebuck. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, February 1, 2008 at Shiloh B.C., 185 Eddie Robinson Drive with interment immediately following in Port Hudson National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Bowers Smith; a daughter, Stacey Jones of Baton Rouge; son, Kenneth Smith and his wife Vernita of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Sheniese Jones and Bobby Smith, both of Baton Rouge, Kayla Smith, Brittani Sims and Mark Sims all of Arlington; three sisters, Beverly Foster of Hyattsville, MD, Betty Crawford of Ruston, LA, JoAnn Smith of Chicago, IL; three brothers, Edwin Smith, Jr. of Bronx, NY, Johnny Smith of Baltimore, MD and Arthur Smith of Fayetteville, NC and his favorite aunt, Susie Gaines of Bosco, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Henrietta Smith; a daughter, Stephanie Smith; brother, Joe C. Smith; and sisters, Janie Smith, Dorothy Richard and Sadie M. Woods.
