Obituary

We mourn the loss and Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mrs. Iva Mae Brooks, 75, of Shreveport, La. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Matthew 5:4 On Tuesday, May 9, 2017, MS. IVA MAE BROOKS was granted her wings peacefully while sleeping. Iva Mae was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Brooks. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Lee Murry Brooks and sister, Theresa Lee Brooks. Iva accepted Christ an early age. She was baptized at St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church, Shreveport, La. She was blessed with one son, LeAndres Brooks, Sr., whom she truly adored and would do absolutely anything for. Iva Mae was also blessed with a daughter "In-Love", Gloria Priest, whom she shared so many memories with. They shared a precious, loving bond, which only grew stronger over the years. God smiled on Iva Mae in a special way in the form of nine grandchildren; four biological, Andrea, Dyshina, LeAndres Jr., and Brianna and five bonus grands, Diane, Bryant, Britney, Terrence and Tyrese. Iva Mae was also blessed by God with seven great grandchildren; two biological, A'Nyla and Kai'Von and five bonus, Javarion, Jarmacia, Deashia, Tabious and DeAuntez, whom she loved immensely and enjoyed spending time and sharing her wisdom with each of them. Iva Mae has one living sibling, a sister, Diane Brooks who resides in Oakland, California. Over the years, they have created precious memories which they will cherish forever. In 1989, Iva Mae moved from Shreveport, Louisiana to California to be near her mother, sister and extended family and friends. She brought with her a love for fishing and went as often as she could. She was the life of the party, loved to laugh and have fun with her family and friends, had a wonderful outlook on life and also had the ability to make you smile and see life from a lighter perspective. Iva Mae loved her family with all her heart. She also had a special love for animals, which resulted in her having her own pet care business, bringing her and the community she served, so much joy. She had a green thumb, everything she touched would flourish and grow immensely. She truly loved and enjoyed all types of music and would sing all the time; that was one of her favorite pass times. Her interests were vast; she enjoyed gardening, reading and watching T.V. Her special program was Little House on the Prairie. Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing her, knew she was an extremely hard worker. Although a double retiree, that didn't stop her. She continued on as a personal housekeeper, as well as, a residential in-home health care worker. After living in California for 15 years, Iva Mae decided to move back to Louisiana to be closer to her son and grandchildren. She was very active throughout her life, until she was faced with an extended health issue, which would later slow her down, but not stop her. Her passions were simply GOD, FAMILY and an ABUNDANCE of FRIENDS!! Please keep the Brooks Family lifted in your prayers.
