On Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, God sent one of his angels to Baton Rouge General Medical Center to carry his beloved servant, Gwendolyn Faye Aites, to her heavenly home. Gwen was born to the late Louis Thomas Aites and Vonnie Bradley Aites on Feb. 18, 1952. Gwen was baptized at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. Gwen was educated in the Catholic schools of Holy Ghost Elementary School and St. Mary's Academy in New Orleans. She attended Dillard University. Gwen was employed for 38 years by BellSouth and AT&T and had recently retired from AT&T in Baton Rouge. Mourning her departure and thanking God for the time we had, she leaves to mourn two sisters, Carol and husband Albert Arvie, of Opelousas, and Lynell and husband Joseph Cadray, of Suwanee, Ga.; nephews, Preston 'Fougie' Carmon III (also her godchild), of New Orleans, Joseph 'JoJo' Cadray III, of Atlanta, and Brat and wife Joni Carmon, of Marietta, Ga.; nieces, Keiara Ann Carmon and Kristen 'Krissy' Michelle Cadray, both of Atlanta, and Paula Carmon and Sarah Pointer, both of Baton Rouge; a great-nephew, Preston Carmon IV, of New Orleans; an uncle, the Rev. Robert Aites, of Baton Rouge; her godchildren, Ramon Casborn, of Miami and Kale Sam, of LaPlace; her most devoted and best friends, Linda, Pat, Sherry, Sonia, Wanda and Yvonne; and a host of cousins, relatives, former co-workers and friends. Viewing will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 3912 Gus Young Ave., on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Winnfield Memorial Gardens, 7221 Plank Road. Arrangements are being handled by Winnfield Funeral Home. The repast will immediately follow the services at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Catholic Student Center, Southern University, 586 Harding Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations are made in her honor to the Red Cross of Baton Rouge, 4655 Sherwood Common Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70816.
