Funeral Service for Mr. Powell will be held Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 1:00pm Tommy G. Hamms Memorial Chapel. Gregory Lee Powell was born on November 27, 1963 to Nancy L. Powell and the late Haston R. Powell in Winnfield, Louisiana. Greg grew up in a small area of Winnfield called Milltown, during the time when it was true that a neighborhood raised the children. He was baptized at a young age at Truevine Baptist Church. With his father coaching him and mother cheering, he developed a deep passion for football, and earned the high school nickname Pistol because of his sharp eye and excellent arm. His talents took him to Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La., where he married, then raised his two children, whom he absolutely adored and loved. He went on to relocate to Arizona City, Arizona. There he was embraced by a number of loving friends, yet always planned on coming home. He enjoyed the beauty of life and family. Well, Greg you made it home. He leaves behind to celebrate his life: mother Nancy Powell, of Winnfield, La.; 2 children, Gregory Christopher Hand Powell, of Bossier City, La, Clarissa Nicole Powell of Baton Rouge, La.; 3 brothers, Garry Powell (wife, Linda) of Rose Pine, La, Garlon Powell (wife, Demetria) of Rowlett, Tx., and Gordon Powell of Winnfield, La and one sister Lycesia Alisha Powell of Winnfield, La. He also leaves to mourn his passing his childrens mother, Kayla S. Powell, 3 uncles, Preston Powell (wife, Blanch), Bobby Powell (wife, Mary), Donald Ray Powell (wife, Eartha Mae), 3 aunts, Eunice Robinson, Loretta Powell, and Minnie Powell, and a host of relatives and friends.
