Fred attended Talladega College, and while serving in the U.S. Army, was instrumental in the training of the famed Tuskegee Airman at Tuskegee Army Airfield. Fred and his devoted wife of 66 years, Corrine A. Kirkland, of Natchitoches, Louisiana, had three children: Mary Diann Pinckney of Cleveland, Ohio; Dr. F. Philip Brown (Dr. Elaine L. Brown) and Dr. James W. Brown (Stephanie R. Brown, J.D.) of San Antonio, Texas. Pop, as Fred was affectionately referred, was blessed with six grandchildren: Dr. Karyn E. After retirement, Fred and Corrine relocated to Natchitoches, Louisiana to live a quiet life on Cane River, where he will also be interred. Fred was known for his love of sports, storytelling, and his abundant catalogues of photos and mementos of his family. His favorite parting phrase to family and friends was keep your nose clean.
