Consummate educator, providing husband and father, caring son, concerned brother, citizen activist, adept student of Mathematics, wonderful Cub Scout Master, dependable uncle and a friend to all describe the late Mr. Frankie Ray Jackson, Sr., affectionately dubbed Boo-Boo and Gabe by family and friends. He was born to the parentage of the late Mr. Wilma Jackson and Mrs. Lou Moses Jackson in Natchitoches. Reared in part by his maternal grandmother, the late Mrs. Mary Moses Reed, this astute lad developed into an excellent academic student and went on to graduate from the Natchitoches Parish Training School in the Class of 1946. His thirst for higher education and his accomplishments in the field of Mathematics (which he called an exercise in Mental Gymnastics) motivated him to obtain the Baccalaureate Degree from Southern University of Baton Rouge and the Masters Degree from Northwestern State University. His formal training was skillfully applied to helping his myriad students to obtain knowledge and logical problem solving techniques. His instructor status transformed into surrogate parent posture for students as he nurtured them beyond school room helping them to become college scholars and productive members of the work force throughout the land. He accomplished this objective as he worked untiringly to lift those pupils in his charge at St. Matthew High School, Central High School and Natchitoches-Central High School. The Natchitoches Parish School Board recognizing his outstanding talents as a professional educator promoted him to the Administrative ranks as a Campus Principal at the Natchitoches-Central High School. His efforts coupled with those of his diligent colleagues were credited with establishment of a smoother transition during the early days of integration in the Parish of Natchitoches at the secondary level. He retired in 1987 with 38 years of admirable active duty to the boys and girls of the Natchitoches Parish School System. He enjoyed 60 years of marriage to Mrs. Lillie B. Jones Jackson, a native of Boyce, who became his life partner. Their matrimonial union was blessed with two sons, Frankie Ray Jackson, Jr. and Conrad Jackson of Natchitoches. Our beloved Mr. Jackson was a devoted member of the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where he exercised his Christian faith until health issues arose. He served in auxiliary capacities as well lending his time and resources to the Knights of St. Peter Claver, the Holy Name Society and being an instructor in Christian Confraternity Doctrine. Mr. Jacksons involvements were many and varied as he strove to improve the quality of life in and beyond his beloved Natchitoches. Some of them include long standing membership with the Natchitoches Parish Voters & Civic League, Inc., NAACP, Natchitoches Parish Teachers Association, Louisiana Association of Educators, Rod and Gun Club, Southern University Alumni Association, former elected member of the Natchitoches Parish Police Jury and former member of the Natchitoches Parish Hospital Board. One sister, Mrs. Vera Kate Bernstine, preceded him in death. He passed away peacefully after a period of illness on June 3, 2008 at the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Mrs. Lillie B. Jackson of Natchitoches, two sons, Frankie Ray Jackson, Jr. and Conrad Jackson of Natchitoches, and one daughter, Ardeth L. Roque of Natchitoches Parish; five grandchildren, Patrice Jackson of Natchitoches, LA, Conrad Stark of Houma, LA, Charles Roque, III of Shreveport, LA, Pamela Brown of Dallas, TX, Charlotte Dillon (Brannon) of Baton Rouge, four great grandchildren, Brienna Jackson, Breanna Dillon, Kimberly Roque and Charles Roque, IV; one nephew, Otis Johnson, III, a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008 10 am at the St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation will be Saturday 8-9:30 at the church with the Rosary recited at 9:30 am. Burial will be in the Lawrence Serenity Sanctum.
