Ethel Mae Montgomery was born on September 11, 1927 to the union of the
late Fleming Montgomery, Sr. and Ethel Montgomery in Bossier City, La.
As the only girl of 6 boys, she was a tomboy who did everything the boys did.
She enjoyed working in her yard and attending church. Ethel had a love for
children and served as a Foster Grandparent for Caddo Council on Aging.
Her greatest pride and joy was her family and she dedicated her life to them.
Ethel accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Hope CME
Church. Over the years, she faithful y served as a choir member, Sunday
School Teacher, and Stewardess. She married the love of her life, John L.
Johnson, Sr. and they raised 7 boys and 6 girls together.
Ethel always said she wanted to live longer than her mother and in true Ethel
fashion she succeeded with that goal. She peaceful y departed this life on
Monday, August 19, 2024 at the ripe age of 96. She was preceded in death by
her parents, husband, her sons: Arthur Ray Montgomery, John L. Johnson,
Jr., Robert James Johnson, Sr., and Clifford Johnson, her daughter, Lil ie
Mae Johnson, her brothers: Buddy, Wil L., James Roy, Eugene, Fleming
Jr., and Leroy Sr., 4 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Her spunk and authenticity live on in her 3 sons: Charles Roy Johnson
(Joann) of Houston, Tx., James Lee Johnson of Monroe, La., Thomas David
Johnson of Shreveport, La.; 5 daughters: Doris Taylor of Baton Rouge, La.,
Dorothy Johnson of Eastvale, Ca., Christine Johnson of Shreveport, La.,
Delores Johnson of Eastvale, Ca., and Johnnie Thomas (Charles) of Crowley,
Tx., 40 grandchildren, 85 great grandchildren, numerous great-great
grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
