Obituary

We mourn the loss and Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mrs. Queen Esther Armstrong, 88, of Riverside, California. Queen Esther was born on October 18, 1928 in Vienna, Louisiana to the late parents of Grady Sr. and Lillie Mae Gibson. She was the eldest of seven siblings, her brother Grady Jr., proceeded her in death. Later she relocated to Los Angeles, California where she married George Gladney Sr. in 1946. From that union George Jr. and Ernest (deceased) were born. Later Joanne (deceased) was born. In 1957, she married Henry Armstrong. During their union under their care was Henry, Jr. (stepson). A few years later, Linda was born and then Anthony. She attended Lincoln High School in Ruston, Louisiana and Southwest College in Los Angeles, California where she obtained her nursing license in June 1973. After graduating, she went on to continue her career in nursing as a registered nurse (RN) at LACUSC Medical Center. She retired from nursing, as a Supervising Nurse, in March 1984. It was her life's passion to care for others. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1976. She served faithfully and became a full-time Pioneer in 1984. In 1991, Queen Esther returned to Louisiana to assist with the care for her ailing parents. Later it was determined with her failing health, she should return to California in 2007. On the morning of October 13, 2017 she succumbed to Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her children, George Gladney Jr., Linda Patton and husband Edmound, Anthony Armstrong and his wife Debora. Five siblings: Golden Choyce and husband Ernest, Mable Christopher, Willie Bell Glover and husband Eugene, William Jefferson (Jeff) Gibson and wife Lossie, and Jesse (Andy) Gibson and wife Margie. Four grandchildren: Vlaire Gladney, Brian Ceballos, Kariss Armstrong, Aaron Armstrong, as well as great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
