A retired Diamond Offshore Oil Drilling employee and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, at his daughter's home. He was 72 and a native of Magnolia, Miss. Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home on Friday, March 25, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Religious service at the funeral home on Saturday, March 26, at 10 a.m., conducted by Pastor Cross Richard. Interment in Winnfield Memorial Park. Survived by his wife, Lillie M. Scott; daughters, Dr. Cynthia Scott-Henderson, W. Palm Beach, Fla., Vonda Scott-Roddy, and Lyrie Scott, of Baton Rouge; son, Ernest W. Scott Jr., Baton Rouge; and 10 grandchildren, Ericka Roddy Toussaint, Rico Scott, Sabrina Scott, Quincy Roddy Jr. and Darrius Jyles, all of Baton Rouge; Cary Henderson Jr., West Palm Beach; Michael Patterson, Baton Rouge; Aiden Nickerson and Cassidy Nickerson, both of Summit, Miss.; and Kiara Henderson, West Palm Beach. He was a member of the Class of 1957 of Europe Bates School, Magnolia, and earned an associate degree from Delgado College, New Orleans.
