A retired Diamond Offshore Oil Drilling employee and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2011, at his daughter's home. He was 72 and a native of Magnolia, Miss. Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home on Friday, March 25, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Religious service at the funeral home on Saturday, March 26, at 10 a.m., conducted by Pastor Cross Richard. Interment in Winnfield Memorial Park. Survived by his wife, Lillie M. Scott; daughters, Dr. Cynthia Scott-Henderson, W. Palm Beach, Fla., Vonda Scott-Roddy, and Lyrie Scott, of Baton Rouge; son, Ernest W. Scott Jr., Baton Rouge; and 10 grandchildren, Ericka Roddy Toussaint, Rico Scott, Sabrina Scott, Quincy Roddy Jr. and Darrius Jyles, all of Baton Rouge; Cary Henderson Jr., West Palm Beach; Michael Patterson, Baton Rouge; Aiden Nickerson and Cassidy Nickerson, both of Summit, Miss.; and Kiara Henderson, West Palm Beach. He was a member of the Class of 1957 of Europe Bates School, Magnolia, and earned an associate degree from Delgado College, New Orleans. He received firefighter and safety awards from ODECO and Diamond Offshore.
