"Lovely Liz"

Elizabeth Beatrice Coleman Johnson was born August 27, 1923 in Benton, Louisiana to the late Jones Coleman and Tommie Taylor Coleman. She was the youngest daughter of nine children. She and her siblings were raised in a neighboring friendship community with other uncles, aunts, and cousins. Her mother was a devout Christain woman, therefore raising her children in the Missionary Christian faith.

At a noonday revival meeting, Elizabeth expressed her belief in Jesus Christ, thereby accepting Him as her personal saviour. At the age of fourteen, she became a baptized believer in Christ Jesus, and a member of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Benton, Louisiana. As a young adult living in Shreveport, Elizabeth was faithful to attend her home church from a distance away. Under the influence and counsel of Dr. Charles E. Galloway, Elizabeth moved her membership to the Hopewell Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. There she remianed a faithful member until her death.

She faithfully served her church family as Sunday School teacher, Director of Christian Education, Baptist Training Union Director, Vacation Bible School Director, Senior Mission teacher, Choir member, chairperson, and committee member for numerous annual church events. She was a witness to the Holy Scriptures and was willing to share what knowledge she had with others.

Elizabeth was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was married to the late Tommie Johnson, Jr. for more than thirty-five years. To their union two daughters were born.

She was a graduate of Bossier Parish Training School (later became C. H. Iron High School). With her late husband's encouragement and support, Elizabeth attended Grambling State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She later earned a Masters Degree from Prairie View A&M University, and a plus thirty hours from Louisiana Tech University. She retired from Caddo Parish Schools after thirty-five years of service as a first grade teacher.

After ninety-nine years of existance on this earth, Elizabeth Coleman Johnson transitioned to eternal glory on May 10, 2023 thus residing with her Lord and Savior Jeus Christ. In her life "Lovely Liz" stood for truth and integrity. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was faithful to serve others as she served God.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, five sisters, three brothers, and a son-in-law.

She leaves to treasure her memory two daughters Felva Leverne Johnson, and Cheryl Johnson Rawls; two grandchildren: Johnny Lee Rawls, Jr. (Andrea), and Courtney J. Rawls of Los Angeles, California; one great granddaughter Poppy Dean Rawls; three nieces, two nephews, great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
