Effie Jean Roberson Holmes was born on August 22, 1942 to the late Fern and Amie Roberson. She confessed her belief in Christ at an early age under the pastorship of the late Rev. L. D. Sudds at the New Friendship Baptist Church in Frierson, LA. Effie attended DeSoto Parish schools and graduated from Second Ward H. S. in 1959 at the top of her class.

Effie married Thomas Curtis Holmes, Sr., her high school sweetheart. They were married for 50 years, and together they had five children.

Effie was gainfully employed until she retired in the early 2000s. She was employed at Louisiana Ammunition where she was the first African-American and first woman supervisor. She also worked for Beard Poulan Weed Eater and Seal Craft Windows, where she later retired.

Effie was a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend who had a caring and kind spirit. She was a dedicated and active member of the New Star Baptist Church for over 45 years.

On March 4, 2024, Effie departed this life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Curtis Holmes, Sr. and her son, Kenny Holmes, Sr.

Effie leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Sarah "Cookie" Lee (Kirk) and Valerie Nicholas (Charles) of Shreveport, LA; two sons, Thomas "Curtis" Holmes, Jr. (Cyolonda) of Dallas, TX, and Danny Aaron Holmes, Sr. (Jacquelynne) of Columbus, OH; 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 great-great-granddaughters; one sister, Glenda Robinson (Harry); two brothers, Allen Roberson (Erma) and Fern Roberson, Jr (Gloria) of Dallas Texas; and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
