EALIE W. THORNTON, JR.

Ealie W. Thornton, Jr. was born in Natchitoches, La. to Mr. and Mrs. Elizabeth and Ealie W.

Thornton, Sr. on September 14, 1935. Ealie was a member of St. John Berchmans Cathedral

Catholic Church.

Ealie received his early childhood education from Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Catholic

School and later attained his high school diploma from Booker T. Washington in Shreveport, La.

He received his bachelor's degree from Wiley College in Marshall, Texas and his Master's Degree

from Central Michigan University in Mont Pleasant, Michigan. He was a retired teacher and

administrator of the Caddo Parish School System where he was one of the first Blacks to

integrate Caddo Parish School System's Central Office as a director, and later to become the

Assistant Superintendent of Personnel.

Ealie was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and a member of Knights of St. Peter

Claver.

On November 1, 2023, Ealie W. Thornton, Jr. entered into eternal rest. He was preceded in

death by his parents, Elizabeth Metoyer Thornton and Ealie W. Thornton, Sr. and his two sons:

Van J. Thornton and Ealie W. Thornton, III.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Lois Thornton, a brother,

Samuel Thornton (Agnes)-Benton, La., a sister, Ophelia Thornton-Shreveport, La., two

daughters: Madeline Landrum (Louis, Jr.)-New Orleans, La. and Marlene Tucker (Grafton, Sr.)-

Shreveport, La., seven grandchildren: Kyloni Phillips-Rockwall, Texas, Monique Woods (Violeta)-

New Orleans, La., Ealie Thornton, IV-Bossier City, La., Grafton Tucker, Jr.-Irving, Texas, Baileigh

Landrum-New Orleans, La., Louis Landrum, III. (Chiara)-New Orleans, La., Marie TuckerShreveport, La., one great-grandchild, Julia Phillips-Rockwall, Texas and a host of nieces,

nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
