Obituary

Funeral Services for Mr. Donald Ray Sowell age 56 of Natchitoches will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Goodwill Baptist Church of Natchitoches on Holmes Street at 11:00 a. m. with burial following in the Breda Town Cemetery with Military Honor Guard. Mr. Donald Ray Sowell was born January 24, 1954 in Shreveport, LA to the parentage of Mr. William Arthur Sowell and Mrs. Camilla Holden Sowell. He was the ninth of twelve siblings which blessed this marital union. He passed away March 27, 2010 at the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. He attended Central High School Class of 1972 where he earned his High School Diploma and later received a credential in Automotive Technology from Natchitoches Vocational-Technical College. He enlisted in the U. S. Army where he served in defense of his country. His active duty term was followed by tenure in the U. S. Army National Guard. He ultimately was awarded the Associate Degree in Automotive Technology from an institution in Tarrytown, New York. Brother Sowell professed a belief in Christ in his youth and was baptized into the Christian faith by the late Rev. G. B. Scott. He then united with the Goodwill Baptist Church of Natchitoches. He was a career soldier in the U. S. Army where he served in defense of his country for approximately 20 years. Preceding him in death were his father, Mr. William Arthur Sowell and two brothers, Mr. Arthur Lee Sowell and Mr. Edward Sowell Sr. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Angel Sowell of Natchitoches, LA, one daughter, Mrs. Monique Jones (Wayne) of Ocean, N. J., two sons, Aaron Sowell and Andre Sowell both of Natchitoches, Louisiana; eight grandchildren; Imani, Kaiya, Moriah Jones of Ocean, N. J., A. J. Sowell of Huntersville, N. C., Ayanna Sowell, Palatka of Florida, Ahmere Sowell of Edison, N. J., Dylan Sowell of Shreveport, LA and Andre D. Sowell, Jr. of Natchitoches, LA; his mother, Mrs. Camilla Sowell of Natchitoches, LA; three brothers, Mr. Lloyd Sowell (Clara) of LaMarque, TX, Mr. Irvin Sowell of Clarence, LA; Mr. Malcolm Sowell (Sandra) of Natchitoches, LA; six sisters, Mrs. Willie Mae Williams of Chicago, Ill, Mrs. Helen Ann Akers of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Earline Rachal (Guy) of Natchitoches, LA, Mrs. Evelyn Willis (Larry) of Natchitoches, LA, his twin sister Mrs. Diane Washington (Richard) of Long Beach, CA and Mrs. Cynthia Morrow (James) of Natchitoches, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
