Daisy Lee Swayzer-Anderson

With gentle grace, Daisy Lee Swayzer Anderson, age 91, of Shreveport, LA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on June 11, 1935, she moved through the world with quiet strength, a tender heart, and a warmth that made everyone feel seen. Her life was a gift of devotion – to her faith, her family, her work, and her community. She was known for the kindness in her eyes, the laughter in her voice, and the unwavering generosity of her spirit. She brought comfort simply by being present, offered wisdom in the gentlest of words, and built a love so enduring it will shelter her family for generations to come.

Her faith was planted early at St. Rest Baptist Church when it was located in the historic Crosstown community of Shreveport, where she was baptized at an early age and where her spirit flourished. There, she gave herself fully to Sunday School, the Senior Choir, the Culinary Ministry, Willing Workers, and the Outreach/Inreach Ministry, serving not out of obligation, but from a place of deep, joyful love. She offered her time, her voice, and her kindness with a humble, open heart. When she could no longer drive, she found her way to Paradise Baptist Church, continuing her walk with God in quiet faith, to worship and fellowship with the same gentle, faithful spirit that had always guided her.

She spent 20 years working at the Shreveport Garment Factory downtown near Louisiana Avenue, skillfully fabricating garments until the factory closed in the late 1960s. She carried her craft forward as a seamstress at Sears and Watts Window World, where her precision and warmth left a lasting mark on all who knew her. In time, she found her final calling at Holy Angels Residential Facility, where she devoted 10 years of service to children who became her own in every way that mattered. Her compassion, patience, and her motherly love touched countless young lives, leaving behind a legacy as soft and steadfast as her embrace.

She is survived by her children: Robert Ray Anderson (Linda), Gail Anderson Harris (Gregory), and Matthew Lee Anderson, Jr.; grandchildren Josky Samuels (LaToya), Travis Raymone Samuels, Raina Trischell Samuels, and Joshua K. Williams (Sammerial); eight great-granddaughters, one great-grandson; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Matthew Lee Anderson, Sr. and by four brothers and two sisters, leaving her as the last living child of John and Josephine Swayzer. Her legacy lives on in every life she encouraged, every soul she lifted, and every heart she made feel less alone.

A celebration of her beautiful life will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Paradise Baptist Church, 1706 Hollywood Avenue in Shreveport, Louisiana. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather to share memories, and to honor the gentle, radiant life she lived.

The family offers their deepest gratitude to Allegiance Hospice and Palliative Care of Northwest Louisiana, to Nurse Letrice Burns, CNA Brittany Bachman and Caregiver Ty’Anna Caldwell for their tender care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the “Mama Daisy Legacy Fund,” honoring her lifelong devotion to education.

Her love, her faith, and her peaceful, gentle spirit will remain with us always.
