Funeral services for Mr. Curtis Harris Sr. age 85 of St. Maurice, Louisiana will be held on Saturday November 21, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Ben D. Johnson Auditorium with Rev. James B. King officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pilgrim church cemetery, Clarence, Louisiana. Visitation will be held on Friday November 20, 2009 from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON A Time to be Born: Deacon Curtis Davis Harris, Sr. was born September 6, 1924 to the late Jim and Ollie Pye Harris who preceded him in death. He joined the U. S. Army (1943) Private First Class with a Military Occupation of Airplane Handler. Upon discharge from the U. S. Army Deacon Harris went to work for the Kansas City Southern Railroad May 5, 1950 and retired July 16, 1986. Curtis was an outgoing and well known Christian throughout the area churches. A Time to Plant: He accepted Christ July 1, 1943 under the leadership of the Rev. L. L. Lewis and remained a faithful member of the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. His affiliations were many and include: Church Usher, Church Choir President, Chairman of the Board of Deacons, North Star Singing Convention President, North Star Mixed Chorus Manager, Brother in the Emmanuel Temple Lodge #141. A Time to Love He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mrs. Bertha Mae Powell Harris and three sons, Mark, Matthew and Eric and one daughter, Yulondia; four brothers, Therman Harris, Herman Harris, Jimmie Harris, and John Harris; five sisters, Essie Virginia Brown, Sarah Waldrup, Pearilee Brown, Willie Frierson and Lucille Rodgers. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted children, Lovene Pudden Harris, Curtis D. Harris, Jr. (Sandra), Kathleen Carethers (Melvin), Florence Walker (Carl) and Ules Harris (Helen); thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grand children; two great, great grand daughters and a host of nieces, great nieces, great great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends along with a special niece, Ethel Lee Telsee.
