Annie-Lee Jefferson Wilson affectionately known as 'Annie' 'Ms. Annie' 'Aunt Annie' 'Annie-Lee' and 'Momma' passed away on January 17, 2014 surrounded by family at the age of 77. Annie was a rare combination of determination, and kindness. She was the daughter of the late Sam and Allie Bea Jefferson and relocated to Shreveport, Louisiana to live with her Uncle L.B.'Big Boy' and Aunt Leilah Brown in the 1950s. She was born on December 18, 1936 in Mansfield, Louisiana. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Vernon Parish of Leesville, Louisiana and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1956. At B.T.W., she was on the basketball team and found her life's passion for service with others. She served as a caregiver and Nanny and nurtured many children for over 50 years in the Shreveport area. She made a career of providing care for many children including the Ballard, Carter, Cox, Harris and Ryan families. At an early age, she professed her love for Christ and later joined the Washington Temple A.M.E. Church where she was a faithful and devoted member. She was active in Christian Education by serving as a Sunday School teacher and Stewardess. Annie would do whatever it took to share her love of Christ and often bought many of the children she reared with her to various functions. She was widely-known for her humble nature, strong-will, determination, and love for God. She enjoyed listening and never veered away from telling the truth. She had a great love for her church, extended family, an affinity for collecting things given to her and often was 'the glue that held families together' Annie-Lee is survived by her husband, Roy Wilson of 57 years, daughter, Patricia Wilson-Jones and son-in-law, Kevin Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA; god-children: Casey, Cory and Anthony; sisters, Pearlie-Mae Jefferson Burnett of Alton, IL; Geneva Sloane of Las Vegas, NV; LaRenza Jefferson and Exie Burks of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Louis Coleman 'L.C.' Jefferson of Los Angeles, CA; Thomas Jefferson of Poughkeepsie, NY; Limas and Louise Jefferson of Houston, TX; Harold Jefferson of Mansfield, LA; Amos 'Hat' Jefferson and Willie Jefferson in Los Angeles, CA; and a host of family and friends. She was predeceased by several loved ones including her parents, uncles, aunts, and sisters, LueVenia Jefferson Jenkins and Ruth-Ella Jefferson; her sisters-in-law Queenetta Harris Jefferson, Gwendolyn Jefferson, and Mercie Jefferson; brothers, James Delmor Jefferson and Lafayette Jefferson. A special note of thanks to Barbara Walker, Brittany Thomas, Casey Ryan, Pearlie-Mae Jefferson Burnett and many close friends for their unconditional love, selfless support, and around-the-clock care provided to Annie-Lee Jefferson Wilson during her transition. Family and friends can gather at Winnfield Funeral Home at Hollywood and Jewella Avenues on Thursday, January 23rd, 2014 from 9:00am until 11:00am to visit. The homegoing celebration and funeral service will begin at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport. Annie-Lee leaves a lasting legacy of tough love. She was a virtuous woman who was often quoted for saying 'Yes Lord, that's right, the truth shall always make you free' and '.well, I told the truth, what else is there to say?' She stayed true to her convictions and Christian ideals and lived by what she believed in. When it came to her love of God, not just for herself but for others, there was nothing that could hold Annie-Lee Jefferson Wilson back.
