Obituary

We mourn the loss and Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mrs. Alzetta Shepherd Petterway 105, of Shreveport, La. Alzetta Shepherd Petterway was born to the late Melvin Shepherd and Henrietta Young Shepherd on June 29, 1913. There were three children born to this union, two who have preceded her in death. She had one half-brother who also preceded her in death. Alzetta accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church. She later united with Jewella Methodist Church where she served as the Director of the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF); Choir Member and Sunday School Teacher. Following the closure of Jewella, she joined Saint James United Methodist Church and later joined her husband and became a member of Pineville Baptist Church. Alzetta, affectionately called "Granny" was a hard working woman who loved The Lord and her family. She had a passion for vegetable gardening, growing flowers especially her favorite roses and canning. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and loved crocheting doll dresses of all styles. Granny was a loving kindhearted person, one who loved The Lord. Alzetta was united in holy matrimony June 1942 to John Petterway. They were married 71 years until God called him home September 2013. Alzetta is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 71 years; two brothers; one sister; two sons; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Left to cherish Granny's life and legacy of love are her two daughters, Joyce Lucinda Glover and Brenda Tolliver (Issac) both of Shreveport, Louisiana; eight grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; over fifty great-great grandchildren; twelve great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephew other relatives and friends Please keep the Petterway Family lifted in your prayers.
