A resident of Baton Rouge, Alex Pero Sr. departed this life on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, after a long stay at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans. He was born in Baton Rouge to James Clark and Viney Raby Pero. He is survived by his wife, Vanessa W. Pero; two sons, Alex Jr. and Reginald Troy, of Atlanta, and Wayne Robbins, of Georgia; four grandchildren, Jalon, Sydney, Nakesia and Troy; and a great-grandchild, Adrian, all of the Atlanta area. He is also survived by three brothers and their wives, Leroy and Barbara, and Randy and Rebecca, all of Baton Rouge, and Charles and Jacquelyn, of Tulsa, Okla.; a sister and her husband, Magdalene Honore and Hilton, of Baton Rouge; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Williams and wife Joyce and Frederick Williams; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Eleanor W. and Winston Brumfield and Jacquelyn W. and Michael Coleman; 11 nieces, 11 nephews and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, uncles, aunts and other relatives. A graduate of McKinley High School and an All-American baseball player at Grambling State University, he also played professionally with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Relatives and friends are invited to attend services at Winnfield Funeral Home on Monday, May 18. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Thomas Clark, SJ, pastor. Interment will be in Winnfield Memorial Park.
